    S. Andrew Josephson, MD

    Editor

JAMA Neurology is an international peer-reviewed journal for physicians caring for people with neurologic disorders and those interested in the structure and function of the normal and diseased nervous system. The Archives of Neurology & Psychiatry began publication in 1919 and, in 1959, became 2 separate journals: Archives of Neurology and Archives of General Psychiatry. In 2013, their names changed to JAMA Neurology and JAMA Psychiatry, respectively. JAMA Neurology is a member of the JAMA Network, a consortium of peer-reviewed, general medical and specialty publications.

Journal Frequency and Access. JAMA Neurology is published online weekly, every Monday, and in 12 print/online issues a year. The journal receives more than 7.7 million annual article views and downloads. Without any author fees, all research articles are made free access online 12 months after publication on the website. In addition, the online version is freely available or nearly so to institutions in developing countries through the World Health Organization's HINARI program.

Editorial Information. The journal’s acceptance rate is 9%. The median time to first decision is 5 days, and 35 days with review. The Journal Impact Factor is 20.4, the third highest ranking among neurology journals. All articles are published online first. Additional information on the types of articles published and editorial policies is available in the journal's Instructions for Authors.

Editorial Team. S. Andrew Josephson, MD, Professor of Neurology and Chair of the Department of Neurology, University of California, San Francisco, is the editor in chief. For a complete listing of the journal's Editors and Editorial Board, see Editors and Publishers.

Mission Statement. The mission of JAMA Neurology is to publish and disseminate scientific information primarily important for physicians caring for people with neurologic disorders and for those interested in the structure and function of the normal and diseased human nervous system. The specific aims are to (1) publish timely original research, including clinical trials that will directly improve clinical neurologic care and that will inform efforts to improve neurological health and promote health care equity; (2) report translational research that is pertinent to the understanding of neurologic disease; (3) address topics of practice, ethics, education, and public health that are a key part of modern medicine; and (4) provide a forum for discussion and publication of important topics including bias, racism, and diversity. This information will be published only after extensive review by scientific peers and journal editors so that clarity, rigor, originality, and precision are ensured.
